Realistic models can be used to directly compare with observations, understand important processes, interpret observations, or forecast.
Through collaborations with the Coastal Modeling Group at UW, I designed an oxygen tracer and implemented it in the Cascadia Model setup of the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS). For more information on that project and model check out this site.
Currently that model is being adapted into forecast model for short-term forecasts through a project funded by the Washington State Ocean Acidification Center called LiveOcean. As part of that project, I am working on adding inorganic carbon tracers in order to look at ocean acidification in that model.
A spinoff of that model is being adapted into a seasonal forecast system called J-SCOPE.
